What are whiteners?
Whiteners are mainly used for erasing ink on paper and as shoe whiteners. It contains volatile aliphatic petroleum hydrocarbons such toluene and trichloroethane which are intoxicating chemicals. However, many people also use whiteners as a way to brighten their teeth. This is done by using a small amount of the whitener on a toothbrush and brushing it onto the teeth.
What is whitener-inhalation addiction?
- The person inhales whitener, which contains intoxicating chemicals, as a result of whitener-inhalation addiction.
- If you do this for some time, the sniffer will become dizzy, high, and disconnected after some time. Sniffers are said to experience hallucinatory effects as a result of this substance. Thus, it is the first step on the way to becoming addicted to drugs or to alcohol.
Whitener abuse is generally seen among young people. Because of the easy availability, negligible cost, and the lack of odour of this material, the problem has been compounded
What are the side effects of whitener-inhalation addiction on a person’s health?
- The chemicals in whiteners contain hydrocarbons, which are dangerous solvents that can easily infuse into the bloodstream and affect the central nervous system of a person.
- Solvent addiction can lead to uncharacteristic behaviors such as mood swings and insomnia. It can result in damage to the kidneys, liver, and lungs in the long run.
